Playing out on numerous stages across the country this week, the optics of the 2012 presidential campaign finally came into sharp focus.  Mitt, Rick, Herman and co. kicked off the week with an ugly brawl in Las Vegas under the supervision of Anderson Cooper. Cringe. Next, President Obama hopped aboard Ground Force One and toured North Carolina and Virginia campaigning for his American Jobs Act. Well played.  Then, word that Libyan dictator Muhmar Quadafi had been captured and killed. Rejoice.  But what happened next is what put the whole week into sharp relief.  At 12:48pm EDT on Friday, October 21, 2011, President Barack Obama took to the podium in the White House Briefing Room to announce that ALL U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the year.  WOW!

That my friends is the kind of game changer that can only be dealt by POTUS.  In an instant, Barack Obama reminded everyone on the planet that he’s the boss.  He may well be the next President of the United States, but make no mistake — he is most certainly the current President of the United States. BOOM.

It is against this backdrop that we engage our two guests this week on PoliOptics.  Josh King joins from his occasional perch in London as we speak with Brooke Brower of  NBC News.  Brooke is the producer of the polioptics savvy show on MSNBC ‘The Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd.’  Then, I breakdown the polioptics implications of the Iraq withdrawal announcement with Mark Pfeifle, former Deputy National Security Advisor to  President Bush.
